Four Winter Skincare Tips

That Change Everything

Have hydrated skin throughout the year with these effective strategies.

# 1 - Switch to Oils

Oils are your best friend (yes even if you have oily skin!)...and this is especially true in winter when your skin is parched.

  • Oil Cleansers are more gentle on the skin than other types of cleansers, so they won't strip away your skin's natural moisture barrier.
  • Facial Oils are intensely more moisturizing than creams & lotions so whether it's for your face, body, or hands...oils are a must for dry winter skin.

# 2 - Exfoliate

Dead skin cells build up faster in the winter since cold weather slows down your skin's natural cell turnover... your dead skin cells pile up on the surface of your skin and prevent your products from doing their job.

  • Use gentle exfoliates and/or hydrating masks to boost cell turnover and brighten your skin.
  • Don't overdo it! Two or at most three times a week is plenty.

# 3 - Prioritize Your Skin Barrier

Compare your skin barrier to your home's insulation...if it's not strong enough moisture escapes and irritants get in (making your skin sensitive and uncomfortable).

  • Look for products with barrier-supporting ingredients, including those with niacinamide, ceramides, cholesterol.
  • These help repair and strengthen your skin barrier so that it can better hold onto moisture.

# 4 - Use Hyaluronic Acid Properly

Hyaluronic Acid is popular because it holds up to 1000x of its weight in water - meaning it's ideal for dehydrated winter skin. But it can backfire if used incorrectly.

  • HA pulls moisture from wherever it can find it so don't make the mistake of using the serum on its own outside of your skincare routine - you'll actually be pulling the water out of your skin causing more dryness.
  • The winter trick: Just be sure to always apply your hyaluronic acid as part of your skincare routine - add to damp skin (right after cleansing or spritzing with a mist), and then follow up with your moisturizer.
